Dr. Michael Valdez is a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Board certified in Internal Medicine. He comes with broad experience ranging from his positions in the Air Force as a Surgical Technician that include Transplant Team Leader, Orthopedic Specialist, and Surgical Training Coordinator. During his time of service, Dr. Valdez was part of the 59th Medical Wing at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. While stationed there, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant with numerous medals and citations of excellence including: Below the Zone Promotion, Air Force Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service, Air Force Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
As a physician, his practice experience is extensive. Dr. Valdez worked as a private practice Internal Medicine Physician in Brooklyn, NY, and he worked in Hospital Medicine at WakeMed Cary Hospital. Dr. Valdez was part of the Veterans Administration Post Deployment Clinic, where he was integral in developing Standards for Multidisciplinary Integrated Care for the Combat Veteran in Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville. He also presented this topic in Grand Rounds to the Duke Medical University in 2011.
In addition to his professional career, Dr. Valdez is also devoted to being part of the community by joining several organizations including: Aids Research Alliance, Air Force Aid Society, United Way Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and the Fisher House of San Antonio, TX. Additionally, he has a passion for soccer, having played for Stetson University’s Division 1 soccer program as well as playing semi-professionally in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Valdez also coached youth league soccer teams at the Lackland Air Force base.
